Four Steps to Realizing a Dream

Everything starts with a dream.  Every successful business.  Every happy relationship.  Every forever home.  Everything.  Dreaming is vital to thriving in this life.

I have never begun anything in my life by taking time to plan or develop a strategic approach.  No, I prefer to jump in and see where the adventure leads!  I’m sure there are hundreds of successful business owners, college professors, and parents experiencing tightness in their chests and anxiety by just reading those words, but it’s the truth.  The process of creating has never been one I have approached from the bottom up.  In my opinion, creating from a dream is way more fun and it provides more opportunities for success.

So, how does one actually create from a dream?  Here are Four Steps to Realizing a Dream:

Discover your purpose

    1. From your purpose, comes your dream, so discovering your purpose is paramount to creating your dream. Just the thought of your “life purpose” can be daunting….”what if I choose the wrong thing?”….”what if I can’t find my purpose?” ….. “how to I begin to find my life purpose?”  Your life purpose will be aligned with your core values, so once you have a good handle on those, your purpose will be clear.
    2. To really understand your core values, you must go to that place of absolute stillness where you can hear your intuitive voice, the guidance from your soul. This can be achieved through a structured meditation.  You can also go to a place that fills you with a sense of calm and peace, perhaps a spot in nature, and practice some slow breathing.  Once you have calmed the chaotic thoughts, ask that your real core values be revealed.
    3. Once you have a good understanding of your core values, then ask what goal will allow you to live guided by those core values. That is your dream.

Visualize your dream

  1. Spend time consciously dreaming of your goal. Envision the goal accomplished.  What does it look like?  How does it feel?  Who is surrounding and supporting you?  Engage all of your senses in this step!
  2. Create a vision board of your completed goal. Vision boards can be created online via apps and websites.  They can also be created the old fashioned way – my preference – where you get out all the craft and art supplies, source visuals from magazines or art, paste everything together on a posterboard and hang it where you can see it everyday.

Communicate your dream

  1. When you begin to talk about your dream, you are developing the plan – the objectives that will help you achieve the goal. The best part of this process is that you aren’t even aware that you are creating a plan of sorts!  You are just sharing your dream with others.
  2. Talking about your dream also allows you to connect with the other people who will be instrumental in the achievement of the dream. You will find the people who can provide supports, tangible or emotional, and you will begin to spend more time with these people as your dream begins to take shape.  These relationships are paramount to your success.
  3.

Focus your intention on your dream

  1. And now you plan….you have the information you need and your dream is clear, so now you have the tools to develop a plan – a path to completion of the dream. Create a time line starting with when the dream will be realized and work your way backward.  How many steps are needed?  What areas must be listed and broken down into specific objectives?
  2. Once you have completed your plan, your pathway to success, prioritize the steps and jump in.Remember to always be kind to yourself and patient with the process.  The moment you question or judge yourself, you are engaging in self-sabotage.  When your dream is developed and visualized, the Universe will get behind you because you have decided….you have committed to the dream, so surrender to the process.  You may not know why things happen in a certain way or at a certain time, but something bigger than you does.  Trust that and practice patience every step of the way.
  3.

Remember, your dream is already created….it is just waiting for you to catch up.
